The Konjac Sponge Rushes

Advert - Progress Diary

Thursday 10/11/16

Encountered a problem with the availability of my location - I was informed that the date that had been agreed for the shoot to take place was no longer available. Even though they offered alternative dates, these weren't suitable for me or my co-worker Tom, as we are both very busy during the week of scheduled filming. Therefore, I made the decision to change locations, as I had a backup location on stand-by in case this happened. Although this did mean I had to re-do my location scout and risk assessment, and I have encountered a problem of the extractor fan causing a faint hum, which may be a problem during filming. Despite this, I believe the overall lighting is better in my new location - due to large windows allowing more natural light into the room - and it is easier to access for all involved.

Friday 18/11/16

Completed the voice over recordings with talent Donna Butler early in the day, and am very happy with the finished result. The audio is clear and doesn't have any background noise/static.

Completed filming for both of my adverts, and I am very happy with the results. I found a way to turn off the extractor fan, which made filming much easier as there wasn't a noise in the background of any of my shots. I did however have an issue with my lighting,  as one was a 'morning' and the other was a 'night time' shot, the lighting differs slightly. But this is not a massive issue.
In addition, filming my actress taking off her makeup with the sponge was harder to film than I had anticipated, as she kept moving her head when using the sponge, so the shots may not be perfectly aligned when I edit the 'before' and 'after' shots together. However, I got a shot of her washing makeup off of the sponge, which I intend to put in between the 'before' and 'after' shots.

Wednesday 23/11/16

I have been working on and have now completed all the rushes for my footage shot on the DSLR and on the GoPro.

Week Beginning 28/11/16

Have been editing my adverts, and have already completed my first advert. There have been a few issues with the editing software, such as problems with timing the music correctly with my sequence. I have also had some difficulties with editing my second advert, as it has a shorter narrative and therefore has a different structure to my first advert.

Tuesday 6/12/16

I have finished editing both of my adverts, and have managed to figure out both the timing and the structure of both of them. I have emailed The Konjac Sponge Company for feedback, and to offer any improvements they may have for me. I have also shown my adverts to my teachers who seemed pleased and gave positive responses.

Wednesday 7/12/16

The Konjac Sponge Company suggested that I add their website link to the end and changed the logo at the end to a more recent version of their logo. Other than that , they were very pleased and believed it represented their product and company well. They are very interested in using my advert on their social media pages, by tweeting a link to my adverts and crediting me. In addition they want me to create a small 10 second version for their Instagram page, and have given me specific shots to include.
However I don't think they'll be able to use my videos until I have handed in my adverts, and I am still waiting to hear back from my teacher regarding this.

Thursday 8/12/16

I have made a 10 second version of my video for The Konjac Sponge Company's Instagram page, and will send it to them as soon as I can. I attempted to attach it as a file to an email, but the file was too big, so I will use a service such as 'We Send It' to driver it to them as soon as possible.

Wednesday 14/12/16

Following feedback in yesterday's lesson from other students and my teachers, I have edited the lighting in my adverts by brightening up darker shots to make them more consistent, and to give the adverts a cleaner finish.
I wanted my mise-en-scene to look crisp and clean to adhere to the conventions of other beauty adverts, and to reflect the natural and clean values of the company I was representing. I believe altering the lighting has helped me do this, and achieve the effect I wanted.

Monday 19/12/16 - Saturday 31/12/16

Have been working on my written evaluation and PowerPoint presentation in the Christmas holidays. I have sent out a questionnaire to potential respondents, and have arranged and conducted a focus group to get qualitative feedback. However, my questionnaire didn't reach as many people as I'd have liked, due to the timing that it was sent (around Christmas), which is obviously frustrating. To try and overcome this, I have been sending the questionnaire to individuals who fit the target audience, and will be re-posting the questionnaire, and asking friends to share it so that I can gain a larger sample. Hopefully this will be effective in gaining more respondents, as this would be beneficial for my evaluation.

Friday 13/01/17

I am continuing to work on my evaluation and PowerPoint presentation, and have gotten helpful feedback from the peer review we did in class. I have sent out my survey again and have gotten some more responses, which is positive. Am still aiming for a few more in order to have a larger and more representative sample.

Thursday 19/01/16
I got some more responses which is positive, and I gave a presentation with my evaluation and findings on Tuesday 10th January. I have completed my evaluation essay and am uploading it today.

Advertising Pitch for 'The Konjac Sponge Company' - Re submission

This is a re-submission of my pitch to make an advert for The Konjac Sponge Company. I have added a more detailed audience profile, (under the audience profile slide) and rates cards for both channels I proposed to show my advert on, as well as a bibliography (in a separate blog post).
